IS-MPMI distributes travel awards for eligible students, post-docs, and early career professionals to attend the IS-MPMI Congress.
Awards up to $1,500 (depending on travel distance) will be given to pay for registration, travel, and/or lodging expenses. Award selection will be based on the quality of the applicant's science reflected in the research abstract, impact statement and curriculum vita.
New Submission Process
The application process has been incorporated into the online Congress abstract submission process. Simply indicate when submitting your abstract that you want to apply for a travel award and the required travel application details will be provided in your submission for completion.
Please note: We strongly encourage you to prepare your statement outside of the system and simply cut and paste your response when prompted.
To be determined for the 2022 Congress.
Students, post-docs, and early career professionals (i.e. individuals who have received a Ph.D. no more than 5 years prior to application) enrolled or employed in programs focused on molecular plant-microbe interaction research are eligible.
The award jury will review all applications received by the deadline and all applicants will be notified in no longer than a month after the deadline of the travel award results. IS-MPMI membership is required prior to receipt of the award funds.
The IS-MPMI Congress Awards are named in honor of Dr. Ko Shimamoto. Dr. Shimamoto made notable contributions to the fields of flowering and plant immunity that brought him respect and recognition worldwide. The awards are named in recognition for his service as the chair and main organizer of the XV International Congress of Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions that was held in Kyoto in 2012. He played a critical role in promoting and developing MPMI research in Asia. The Kyoto Congress, he so successfully organized, was the first that IS-MPMI held in Asia. He is fondly remembered for his kind and gentle character, his dedication to his students, and his role as an inspiring and caring mentor.
