Plant beneficial traits of rhizosphere microorganisms include plant defence activation, pathogen inhibition and plant growth promotion. However, the nature and diversity of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the regulation of the friendly plant-microorganism interaction and inhibition of phytopathogens by rhizosphere microorganisms is almost unknown. In the present work the genome of ten plant beneficial rhizophere bacteria with biocontrol characteristics against chilli pepper root pathogens and two bacteria hostile in plant were sequenced exploring functional traits marker genes. The rhizosphere bacteria were selected from 94 isolates obtained from wild plants. Selection criteria included confrontation tests in agar plates and plant co-inoculation assays with bacteria and the root pathogens Phytophthora capsici, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizcontonia solani; in addition, bacteria-plant interaction and production of indoleacetic acid (IAA) by the bacteria was examined. Twenty-six of the bacteria showed IAA production, biocontrol and plant growth promotion potential; of these, thirteen bacteria confirmed these plant beneficial traits in plant assays and induce differentially in plant the PR-1 defence gene. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis of the bacteria genome sequencing is being performed including comparative genomics, which will be useful to further explore the mode of action of plant beneficial rhizosphere bacteria.
